Nigeria restates commitment to Paris Agreement
The Federal Government of Nigeria on Friday June 2, 2017 restated her commitment to the Paris Climate Change Agreement, a day after the President Donald Trump pulled United States of America out of the global deal.
Minister of State for Environment, Ibrahim Usman Jubril, in a statement on the official twitter handle of the Federal Ministry of Environment said despite the pulling out of the United States from the Paris Agreement “I want to state categorically that Nigeria joined the Paris Agreement as a Sovereign Country taking into account its national circumstances and convection in a global approach to tackle climate change.”
Jibril stressed that Nigeria is committed to the provisions of the Paris Agreement as it is in accordance with its National interest.
Nigeria signed the Paris Agreement in 2016 and ratified same in 2017 as the 146th Party ratified the agreement adopted by 195 countries in Paris, France in December 2015.
