Firm unveils 253-megawatt wind farm

As another example of how clean technology is taking off around the world, including in the United States, Amazon has announced that its 253-megawatt wind farm – Amazon Wind Farm Texas – is now up and running.
With more than 100 turbines, the new wind farm will start delivering over 1 million megawatt of clean energy to the grid annually, enough to provide power to around 90,000 homes.
Amazon Wind Farm Texas is among 18 wind and solar projects launched by Amazon that are now operational across the US, and the company has more than 35 projects in development.
“Investing in renewable energy is a win-win-win-win – it’s right for our customers, our communities, our business, and our planet. We now have 18 win and solar projects across the US with more than 35 projects to come. These are important steps toward reaching our long-term goal to power our global infrastructure using 100% renewable energy,” said Kara Hurst, Amazon’s Worldwide Director of Sustainability.
Data centers of big technology companies such as Google, Amazon, and Facebook require huge amounts of energy to run their day to day operations. To reduce excess energy use and carbon emissions, companies have set sustainability targets and are racing ahead to make investments in renewable energy.
For instance, Amazon’s cloud computing business, Amazon Web Services, aims to achieve 100% renewable energy usage for its global infrastructure footprint.
The company has bought more than 1.22 gigawatts of output so far from US clean energy projects, next only to Alphabet Inc.’s Google with 1.85 gigawatts.
