COVID-19: WMO postpones meetings through to June

In the light of the global spread and impact of COVID-19, and mindful of the importance of taking mitigating measures against the virus, the World Meteorological Organization has decided to postpone a series of events and meetings that were scheduled to take place from March through to June.

Among the events affected is the 23 March ceremony marking World Meteorological Day, as well as various technical and policy meetings in April and the 9 to 12 June session of the WMO Executive Council. These meetings are set to be rescheduled later in 2020.

WMO is due to make alternative arrangements to ensure progress in the efficient implementation of its business and the work of its constituent bodies, which group the globe’s 193 National Meteorological and Hydrological Services.

The decision is in line with the precautionary approach adopted by other international organizations in the face of the serious global situation, and seeks to ensure the safety of staff and delegates.
